Fuel ownership group reaches agreement with Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Ice Arenas LLC, affiliate of the Indy Fuel Hockey Club, announced Monday that they have signed an operating agreement for the Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion and the Cheri Daniels Arena with the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. Located directly adjacent to Indiana Farmers Coliseum within the Indiana State Fairgrounds, the Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion and Cheri Daniels Arena opened in 2013 as part as the $63 million renovation to the Coliseum.

Moving forward, Indiana Ice Arenas will oversee all staffing and programming for ice-related activities within the 29,000 sq. foot facility, which is used year-round for banquets, trade shows and livestock events. From September through March, when the ice surface is installed, the Youth Pavilion has played host to the Fuel, the Coliseum Youth Hockey Association (now part of the Junior Fuel Hockey Club), the Winter Club of Indianapolis Skating Club local collegiate club teams and public open skating. Along with the Fuel Tank at Fishers Indiana Ice Arenas, LLC now operates three sheets of ice in Central Indiana.

“We are extremely excited for the opportunity to operate the Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion and Cheri Daniels Arena. The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center has been an integral partner to us since the Fuel arrived in Indianapolis, and we think we can build on the success the Youth Pavilion has seen since it opened its doors three years ago,” said Chad Hallett, General Manager of the Fuel Tank at Fishers. “So much of what we do is directed at growing hockey and ice sports in the Indianapolis area, and the 75 years of tradition at the Fairgrounds and the new Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion will be an invaluable resource toward executing that goal.”

In addition to its NHL-sized ice surface, the Pop Weaver Youth Pavilion features a full-service pro skate shop, concession stands and can accommodate a hockey crowd of around 600. The facility can be directly connected to both Indiana Farmers Coliseum and the South Pavilion.
